Press Release: Robert Appel
Saul Wealth Hires Robert Appel as Senior Investment Director
Veteran portfolio manager brings more than four decades of institutional investing experience
NEW YORK — April 14, 2026 — Saul Wealth, a boutique advisory firm serving ultra-high-net-worth entrepreneurs, has named Rob Appel as senior investment director.
Appel will oversee day-to-day portfolio management, portfolio construction, investment due diligence and asset management services. His addition reflects Saul Wealth’s continued growth and commitment to delivering a disciplined, institutional-grade investment process within a highly customized, family office–level experience.
“Rob brings a level of institutional rigor and experience that enhances how we manage and evaluate investments for our clients,” said Matthew Saul, founder and CEO of Saul Wealth. “As we continue to scale, having a dedicated leader focused on portfolio management at this level is critical to delivering the clarity and confidence our clients expect.”
Appel joins Saul Wealth Advisors after a 27-year tenure at APG Asset Management, the asset management arm of one of Europe’s largest pension funds. As director of mortgage-backed securities strategies, he managed approximately $12 billion in U.S. fixed income assets and helped build APG’s U.S. investment infrastructure beginning in 1999. He served on APG’s fixed income strategy group, supporting asset allocation decisions within the U.S. fixed income fund, and on the relative value group, overseeing risk management across U.S. and European portfolios.
In addition to institutional portfolio management, Appel has led retirement plan investment oversight, chairing APG’s $140 million 401(k) plan and guiding investment selection, platform implementation, and governance policies.
Appel began his career on Wall Street in 1984, holding fixed-income research roles at Lehman Brothers, Merrill Lynch, Kidder, Peabody & Co., and UBS Asset Management.
“I’m excited to join a firm that combines disciplined investing with a highly personalized client experience,” Appel said. “Saul Wealth’s approach to integrating personal and business wealth aligns with how I believe sophisticated portfolios should be managed.”
Appel earned a bachelor’s degree from SUNY Binghamton and an MBA from Fordham University. He lives on Long Island’s North Shore with his wife and enjoys golf, travel, and time with his family.
